The 1st XI match was postponed away and the 3rd XI had no fixture. Nevertheless, the 2nd & 4th XI’s gamed at home both went ahead!
The 2nd XI competed well in a hard fought and generally even contest against Westside Reserves.
The first half saw the Ruts take the lead 3 times and on each occasion they were pegged back level. Ollie Hicks scored the Ruts opener early on, upon his return to action before the Visitors promptly levelled. Gary Wilton then headed the Ruts back in to the lead, before Westside struck back from the Spot after Steve Berry was adjudged to have fouled an opponent.
Berry promptly turned from Villian to Hero, as he then went straight down the other end and headed home a neat cross from Ollie Hicks. The theme continued as Westside then equalised again to make it 3 – 3 at the break.
Both teams had 2nd half chances to score without success and an increasingly muddy and boggy pitch saw the final score remain at 3 – 3.
The 4th XI were without their inspirational Manager Boo-Boo who was wrapped up in bed unwell – get well soon Boo.
However, cometh the hour, cometh the Man, as another club leg-end stepped up to run the team in Boo’s absence and a big thank you to Erol Yilmaz for doing so.
The Ruts were apparently 2 – 0 down with 15 mins to go, which prompted the wily old Yilmaz to step up off the bench to turn the game around himself which he did with aplomb, with goals from Dean Riordan, Hughes and Sam Colebrook leading to a remarkable turnaround and a 3 – 2 win. Marvellous and Well done.
The Vets Match tomorrow has been called off.
Best wishes to any of the Junior Teams whose matches survive
