Results Round Up – Saturday 31st March 2018.

Our remarkable pitch had drained away superbly, which allowed back to back games to proceed after an early pitch inspection, and to top things off, there were ‘goals galore’ at Poplar Road, although not all in our favour.

The 1st XI set their stall out early against AMY FC, as they took the lead with less than a minute on the clock, following good work from Chris Beard who set up Zak Graham for his first goal on route to a hatrick. Zak doubled his tally from the spot in the 26th minute after earning and converting a penalty.

Chris Beard then notched a goal for himself and had another effort blocked, which ultimately pin-balled a couple of defenders before entering the net for an OG to make it 4 – 0 at the interval.

The Ruts knew the game was far from over against a lively pacy AMY front line who created chances themselves, although the Ruts continued to take their own chances.

Zak Graham completed his trio with a deft finish, Chris Beard struck well for his brace and Jimmy Graham bagged a one on one goal, whilst in between AMY notched a consolation goal to make the final score 7 – 1.

The 2nd XI suffered a hefty 5 – 1 home defeat in the early kick off against Old Russellians, in a below par performance. Ollie Hicks fired the Ruts goal just before half-time to make it 1 – 2 at the break. However, the Visitors hit some decent goals in the second half to wrap things up for themselves.

The 3rd & 4th XI’s had a week off, as do the Vets in the morning.

Best wishes to the Junior Teams tomorrow.

Results Round Up – Saturday 24th March 2018.

The 1st XI secured a 3 – 1 victory against Old Plymouthians FC at Poplar Road earlier today. The OR’s were slow out the traps and promptly went a goal down, before getting themselves in to the game.  Duncan Fraser levelled with a terrific header and Zak Graham converted from the spot to provide the Ruts with a 2 – 1 interval lead.

The ever committed Fraser sustained a nasty cut to the head on the hour mark and had to reluctantly leave the field. Jimmy Graham notched the Ruts third following a one on one opportunity which he duly converted.

The 2nd XI suffered a classic case of ‘tough day at the Office’, which was no doubt partially attributable to the inexcusable blowout of 3 players at midday. Well done to Sporting 50 FC for progressing in the cup at our expense, as they ran out 7 – 2 victors. Paul Gough notched a brace in his quest to rally his team.

The 3rd XI were apparently well off of the pace in a poor performance as they went down 1 – 0 at Home to Beckenham FC to increase their relegation concerns.

The 4th XI secured a splendid 4 – 3 win in the Cup against Thornton Heath FC in a full bloodied end to end epic cup tie.

The Ruts went a goal down before Dean Riordan levelled from the spot. The game was end to end for most of the 90 minutes with the scoreline going to and fro! 3 – 3 in the closing stages with Riordan adding a second from a free kick which evaded everyone and a deft lob from Sam Colebrook.

Harry Reeder scored the Ruts winner with a header. 3 of the 4 goals were caught on camera and will be circulated in due course!

Best wishes to the Vets and Junior teams tomorrow.

Results Round Up – Saturday 17th March 2018.

The 1st XI secured their place in the Surrey Intermediate Cup Final for the first time, as they overcame Cranleigh FC at Poplar Road, in what was a well officiated match.

Headed goals at either end of the first half from Zak Graham and Paul Whitthread provided the Ruts with the interval cushion from a well balanced half.

The Ruts appeared to have made the game safe when Captain Chris Beard fired the OR’s into a 3 goal lead after the break. However, Cranleigh often looked threatening on the break and they reduced the arrears with about 10 minutes to go. Pleasingly the Ruts held firm thereafter and Zak Graham hit the teams 4th goal in the final stages to earn himself a brace, making the final score 4 – 1.

Congratulations to Nick Raggett and his team on reaching the final against Wandgas FC to make it an all SSEC affair, which is very most likely to be a very tight match on the 18th of April.

The Venue is TBC, as the scheduled new Meadowbank ground is behind schedule and will not be ready in time.

The 2nd XI Match was postponed and the 3rd XI had a week off.

The 4th XI can be proud of their efforts in the semi final of the Teck Cup. Old Isleworthians had gained two sizeable victories over Boo’s team in the League and to be honest, they should be playing Intermediate football, rather than Junior.

Despite Boo’s emphatic pre-match instructions, the lads didn’t manage to carry out his request, as they promptly fell 2 goals behind very early on against their strong opposition.

Massive credit to the team though, as they did not crumble and rallied brilliantly and managed to spin the scoreline on it’s head by taking a 3 – 2 lead. Play maker Dean Riordan struck a stunning free kick, the impressive Kai Walker stabbed home the second and Casey Vickery hit a sweet 3rd goal against a temporarily rattled opposition!.

The lads were unable to hold out though and finally went down 7 – 3. Great effort from the team though.

Best wishes to the Vets and Junior Teams tomorrow if their games survive the elements.
