Results Round Up – Saturday 20th January 2018.

The 1st XI match was postponed away and the 3rd XI had no fixture. Nevertheless, the 2nd & 4th XI’s gamed at home both went ahead!

The 2nd XI competed well in a hard fought and generally even contest against Westside Reserves.

The first half saw the Ruts take the lead 3 times and on each occasion they were pegged back level. Ollie Hicks scored the Ruts opener early on, upon his return to action before the Visitors promptly levelled. Gary Wilton then headed the Ruts back in to the lead, before Westside struck back from the Spot after Steve Berry was adjudged to have fouled an opponent.

Berry promptly turned from Villian to Hero, as he then went straight down the other end and headed home a neat cross from Ollie Hicks. The theme continued as Westside then equalised again to make it 3 – 3 at the break.

Both teams had 2nd half chances to score without success and an increasingly muddy and boggy pitch saw the final score remain at 3 – 3.

The 4th XI were without their inspirational Manager Boo-Boo who was wrapped up in bed unwell – get well soon Boo.

However, cometh the hour, cometh the Man, as another club leg-end stepped up to run the team in Boo’s absence and a big thank you to Erol Yilmaz for doing so.

The Ruts were apparently 2 – 0 down with 15 mins to go, which prompted the wily old Yilmaz to step up off the bench to turn the game around himself which he did with aplomb, with goals from Dean Riordan, Hughes and Sam Colebrook leading to a remarkable turnaround and a 3 – 2 win. Marvellous and Well done.

The Vets Match tomorrow has been called off.

Best wishes to any of the Junior Teams whose matches survive

The 1st XI Won 4 – 3 at AMY FC in the League earlier today. Despite being on top in the early stages the Ruts conceded twice in the half, finding themselves 2 – 0 down before regrouping and emphatically turning the half on it’s head by scoring 4 times before the interval.

Zac Graham reduced the arrears from the spot after earning the penalty himself and Chris Beard then struck two terrific raspers following neat interplay. Billy Liffen also struck impressively ending another decent move.

The second period was less eventful which saw the hosts reduce their arrears to 4 – 3 from the penalty spot.

The 2nd XI suffered the Ruts only defeat of the day as they went down 2 – 1 at Home to AFC Ewell. Paul Gough scored the OR’s goal.

Vets Result – Sunday 7th January 2018

The Vets ran out 3-1 winners at home against Bocca Vets. Without a Goalie player manager Lee ‘Trigger’ Poulter took a turn between the sticks and held on to a clean sheet before going off injured after an hour.

The 1st goal came courtesy of a returning Ruts legend Paul Hull who calmly slotting past the keeper. Hull added a second for his brace and Billy Finnis scored the other goal.

IMan of the match with an assured display at centre half was Graham ‘Bernie’ Winter.

Good win lads!!

Results Round Up – Saturday 6th January 2018.

The 1st XI beat Epsom Athletic FC 11 – 0 at Poplar Road today. Remarkably the half time scoreline was 9 – 0 as the Ruts ran rampant with a first half Hatrick from Captain Chris Beard, braces from Paul Whitthread & Billy Liffen, plus additional strikes from Graham Rolfe and Zak Graham.

A shortened second half saw the Ruts add two further goals courtesy of Zak Graham which completed his Hatrick.

The 4th XI worked hard in their tough encounter against table topping Old Isleworthians, although they eventually went down 6 – 0.

Best wishes to the Vets and Junior Teams tomorrow.
