Results Round Up – Saturday 13th April 2019.

The 1st XI drew 0 – 0 at Frenches Athletic FC earlier today. It was a pretty close match, although the Ruts certainly had more chances overall. However, our usually incredibly potent scorers were unable to break the deadlock on this occasion.

That said, the Hosts are a decent outfit and yours truly was personally  impressed by their performance earlier in the season at Poplar Road.

Given that all 3 of our subs were injured or unwell, it was quite handy that they were not required until the final stages. Unfortunately, Michael Beard took a step too far by attempting to play, as he soon departed again a short time later, as his injury was still very apparent.

Despite having numerous opportunities ourselves, Frenches had some decent openings too and OR’s Keeper Evan Watson deservedly secured the MOTM award with 3 first class saves, a full stretch dive and tip around in the first half and in the second period a superb block with his legs thwarted a scoring opportunity. Evan then cemented his award with a stunning save in the last minute.

The 4th XI achieved a fine 3 – 2 away win at Brentford Free FC. The Ruts goals came courtesy of a Harry Reeder brace and a further strike from Sam Colebrook.

Best wishes to the Ruts Junior teams tomorrow.

Results Round Up – Saturday 6th April 2019.

The 1st XI secured a decent 2 – 0 home win against Tooting Bec Res FC earlier today, in a match that pitched 1st v 2nd in the table. Pleasingly the ensuing victory enhanced the OR’s pole position, with just 3 games to play.

A tight first half saw Zak Graham fire a rasper in the 15th minute, only for his effort to slam the post and then ricochet across goal past the other post and away to safety.

However, in the 34th minute a supreme Chris Beard half volley glided in to the visitors net to secure the interval lead for the OR’s.

In the second period the Ruts missed a few decent chances with a couple of headers from Duncan Fraser void, with one being quite close and then a late Zak Graham free-kick from the Ruts left wing touchline evaded the Tooting keeper to cement the 3 points for the Ruts.

The 2nd XI away match saw a Ruts team having to forfeit it owing to lack of players with way too many blowouts late on.. Fortunately we very rarely fall foul to this issue though.

The 3rd XI suffered a narrow 1 – 0 defeat to Wandgas Vets FC.

The 4th XI went down 4 – 2 to NPL 4s in the Joe Hankin Cup Scorers Sam Colebrook and ??? TBC

Best wishes to all the Ruts Junior teams tomorrow.

The 1st XI secured a 3 – 0 Home win against Goldfingers FC at Poplar Road thanks to a Zak Graham Hatrick. The Ruts MOTM was Dan Lawrence.

The somewhat depleted 2nd XI suffered a double defeat against high flying Woodmansterne Hyde FC in their Double Banker with a number of 3rd and 4th XI Players stepping up to help the cause. However, the Ruts went down 5 – 2 and 4 – 1 with Sam Colebrook notching in both matches and Paul Gough scoring the other Ruts goal.

The 3rd and 4th XI’s were without fixtures.

And then a number of us headed off to Lords Cricket Ground for a splendid ORA Annual Dinner = Smashing Evening.

Best wishes to the Junior Ruts Youth teams today.

Great Fundraising Effort at the Ruts

Results Round Up – Saturday 9th March 2019.

The 1st XI overcame Reigate Priory FC at Poplar Road this afternoon, although in reality the score-line didn’t truly reflect the overall balance of play at various times during the match.

However, after a relatively even first 40 minutes the Ruts disturbed proceedings by hitting two incredibly quick fire goals in prompt succession. Firstly a trademark 25 yard free kick from Zak Graham broke the deadlock and then the effervescent Paul Whitthread finished a fine team move by firing home in the area.

The Ruts then added 3 further goals to their tally after the break, although they needed to remain fully alert at the back themselves, as the visitors regularly threatened and only adverse finishing, determined defending and the alert Evan Watson thwarted the danger in the second period.

That said, the Ruts remained potent going forward themselves and a superb Zak Graham strike took the sting out of the game around the hour mark and pleasingly this was then shortly followed by a terrific Chris Beard strike.

To wrap the game up Chris Beard was battered to the ground in the Reigate area shortly before the whistle, which then enabled Zak Graham to claim an excellent Hatrick from the spot, which also earned him the OR’s MOTM award on the day.

The 2nd XI went down 3 – 0 at Shaftesbury Town FC, with no further detail to offer at this stage.

The 3rd XI suffered narrow back to back 2 – 1 defeats in their double header against Reigate Old Boys FC, with Kevin Foster and Matt Vandepeer notching the OR’s consolations in the respective matches.

The 4th XI returned to winning ways with a welcome 3 – 2 victory over Barnslake FC. The Ruts scorers were Aaron Betteridge, Owura Appiah and Dean Riordan.

Best wishes to the Ruts Junior teams tomorrow.
