The 1st XI secured a vital 3 points in their quest to retain the Title, as they travelled to Wandgas Sports FC this evening for a game incurring bright sun, heavy rain and hailstones.
Clever footwork and a mazy run saw Jimmy Graham put the OR’s into a 9th minute lead, although it’s fair to say that the hosts created plenty of chances themselves, forcing a superb stop from Seymore in the OR’s goal and his assured handling on the skiddy surface enabled the OR’s to retain the first half lead. That said, the Ruts continued to create chances for themselves.
However, it took until the 70th minute when a clever interception from Jake Hill saw him feed a pass to Zak Graham, who in turn fed it on to Chris Beard, who’s effort found it’s way into the net at the far post. Good positioning from the Ref ensured the goal was given.
Despite plenty of chances at both ends the Ruts gained the all important victory, with the Hosts edging first half chances and the Ruts the second half.
Unfortunately the 3rd XI’s torrid campaign saw them offically relegated, as they went down 3 – 1 away to Warlingham FC with one game still to play on the 5th of May. Kyle Moore hit the Ruts consolation. Onwards and upwards.
Best wishes to the teams in action this coming weekend.
