The 1st XI ran out comfortable 9 – 0 winners against a sporting Ashtead FC today, and in reality, if it hadn’t been for some wayward finishing, coupled with some consistently inspired goal-keeping from their top No 1, things may possibly have been heftier.
With just 2 minutes on the clock a terrific long range pass from the Ruts Keeper Adam Seymore found Jimmy Graham on the right wing and his pinpoint cross was powerfully headed home by Zak Graham.
On 31 minutes OR’s Skipper Chris Beard fired a stunning 25 yard shot to make it 2 – 0 and just a minute later, Beard was involved again as he was fouled in the Area and Zak Graham converted the resulting penalty to make it 3 – 0. Beard then continued his rampant phase as he pounced to hit the Ruts 4th and his brace.
Graham Rolfe fired home a left footed shot from 18 yards in the 45th minute and Zak Graham earned and converted his second penalty in first half injury time, which completed his Hatrick to make it 6 – 0 at the break.
Credit to Ashtead for digging in, although despite their efforts, the Ruts did manage to add 3 further goals.
Substitute Gary ‘Spanish’ Wilton made an early second half impact as he hit a superb unstoppable shot in the 51st minute and this was followed by a goal bound Jimmy Graham effort being headed in virtually on the line by the influential Jake Hill on 63 minutes.
The Ruts final goal came in the 67th minute when Jimmy Graham went on a mazy defence splitting run before slotting home.
Special mention must go to Paul Tuckey, who despite numerous serious injuries and operations, somehow always manages to bounce back well ahead of any Specialists schedule, always itching to play, which his ability fully warrants. A talented top player, a top lad who certainly put in a decent shift in his spell today. Well done Tucks!
The 2nd 3rd XI’s did not have Fixtures today.
Unfortunately, the 4th XI lost their combined fixture versus Darkside FC today, as they went down 4 – 1, with Aaron Betteridge notching the Ruts consolation.
Best wishes to the Vets and Junior Teams tomorrow.

Results Round Up – Saturday 7th April 2018.
The 1st XI ‘got the job done’ as they extended their points lead over their closest rivals and maintained it over the 3rd placed team (albeit, they have some games in hand) following a 3 – 0 home win against LDN South West FC in the final home game of the Season.
Jake HIll hit a 28th minute ‘Worldy’ from a 30 yard free kick, although the odd cynic might proclaim it was intended as a cross? I wasn’t at the match and cannot comment further!
The Ruts eventually managed to wrap the game up in the second half ,as yet another powering ‘trademark’ Duncan Fraser header from a Jimmy Graham corner on 70 minutes, was followed by the final goal on 75 minutes, as Jimmy Graham himself deftly hit home following decent wing play and set up from Billy Liffen.
The 2nd XI had a weekend off and return to action this Wednesday – details to follow.
The 3rd XI suffered cup agony against Tooting Bec ‘A’ FC in their Cup Semi Final in the early 12.15pm kick off
Player Manager Richard Edmonds put the Ruts ahead early on and the scoreline appeared to be staying that way until deep into a very unexpected injury time of (what was claimed to be) 8 minutes. The Bec duly levelled and then spun the game around further by storming into an extra time lead.
The final score was a 4 – 2 defeat, with Rhys Waul notching the OR’s second goal.
Manager Edmonds said ‘the whole team gave it everything and due to multiple muscle cramps and injuries the late equaliser in normal time was a massive blow’.
The 4th XI also suffered a semi final cup defeat against higher division opposition as they went down 5 – 1 at Surbition Eagles.
The Ruts opening play was decent and the match was evenly poised for 32 minutes, with the OR’s forcing a few chances and several corners. However, a goal in the 32nd minute was soon followed by 2 additional pre-interval goals to leave the lads. 3 – 0 down at the break.
The OR’s kept going though and battled hard against a team much larger in stature and their efforts paid off when Sam Colebrook reduced the arrears around the hour mark. Alas, this was only a short reprieve, as the hosts added two more goals to make the final score 5 – 1.
The Vets had ‘a nice change’ as they played Friday evening, instead of Sunday morning versus Molesey FC. The OR’s suffered a 3 – 1 reverse. Scorer TBC.
Best wishes to the Junior Teams tomorrow.

Results Round Up – Saturday 31st March 2018.
Our remarkable pitch had drained away superbly, which allowed back to back games to proceed after an early pitch inspection, and to top things off, there were ‘goals galore’ at Poplar Road, although not all in our favour.
The 1st XI set their stall out early against AMY FC, as they took the lead with less than a minute on the clock, following good work from Chris Beard who set up Zak Graham for his first goal on route to a hatrick. Zak doubled his tally from the spot in the 26th minute after earning and converting a penalty.
Chris Beard then notched a goal for himself and had another effort blocked, which ultimately pin-balled a couple of defenders before entering the net for an OG to make it 4 – 0 at the interval.
The Ruts knew the game was far from over against a lively pacy AMY front line who created chances themselves, although the Ruts continued to take their own chances.
Zak Graham completed his trio with a deft finish, Chris Beard struck well for his brace and Jimmy Graham bagged a one on one goal, whilst in between AMY notched a consolation goal to make the final score 7 – 1.
The 2nd XI suffered a hefty 5 – 1 home defeat in the early kick off against Old Russellians, in a below par performance. Ollie Hicks fired the Ruts goal just before half-time to make it 1 – 2 at the break. However, the Visitors hit some decent goals in the second half to wrap things up for themselves.
The 3rd & 4th XI’s had a week off, as do the Vets in the morning.
Best wishes to the Junior Teams tomorrow.
Both games on as the water has all gone. Nice!

The Weekend Ahead – 31st March/1st April 2018

Please note that consequently the Dressing Rooms will be more congested than usual.
Vets
Vets put in a gritty determined performance at poplar rd today against a good strong Wandgas Village vets ,with many key Ruts players unavailable we seemed to be inundated with mainly defensive players and Wandgas raced into a 2-0 h/t lead with Ruts first teamer Eamonn pulling the strings for them, second half we gained the momentum back taylor & reynolds getting hold of centre of midfield and backed up by rest of Ruts team with a never give up attitude and after a long kick from steve our keeper for today which wandgas never dealt with it fell nicely for Gary Wilton to finish off well with low strike past their keeper , bit route one but they all count, with us getting stronger and wandgas fading we kept pushing forward and although their wasnt many goalscoring chances for both team s we scored with Gary scoring again with only a few minutes remaining for a fully deserved draw ,good battle and good attitude from all involved well done all.
