Results Round Up – Saturday 29th January 2022.

The 1st XI were very under par this afternoon as they hosted Junction Elite FC. Both sides had first half chances, although it was Goalless at the Break.

The Ruts squandered several good chances after the interval and Ruts Keeper Evan Watson also pulled off some decent saves at the other end. As the game appeared to be heading for a draw, the visitors scored after the linesman had raised his flag which was fully ignored by the Referee. Then to add salt to the wounds, this tally was doubled with virtually the final kick of the match as the Ruts slumped to a disappointing defeat.

The 3rd XI secured a fantastic 3 – 2 in the Cup as they defeated higher placed opposition in Motspur Park Res FC. The lads stormed into a 2 – 0 lead thanks to a quickfire brace from Tony Furneaux.

Self acclaimed Manager of the Month Christian Cittie was understandably delighted with the Result as he gleefully reported as follows,

We made a very strong start, scoring 2 goals inside 15 mins and we kept up the fast tempo by pressing and defending for the majority of the half. Motspur Park then broke away and a fluky cross looped over our stand in keeper Ross Trimmings to make the score 2-1 at half time.

A very sturdy second half saw us “defending for our lives” at points, However, we managed to breakout to score again through Dan Wallis as he converted a Furneaux cross.

A dodgy penalty allowed MPFC to pull it back to 3 – 2, although we held on well to cause a big cup shock and win the game. Furneaux notched the Ruts MOTM award for his double and assist.

The 3rd XI Celebrating their fine win after they returned to the Ruts Ranch.

The Walking Football Team notched up a healthy 7 – 1 win against Better Sports Village Sutton this morning in a sporting affair.

The Ruts highlight was seeing Darren Knott (pictured below) return from a lengthy injury lay off, to secure his 500th Old Ruts Appearance!!!

Scorers – Peter Gillman (2) Paul Cook (2) Ray Kinsella, Darren Knott and John Walker. MOTM Ray Kinsella.

Best Wishes to the Ruts teams playing tomorrow.
