Results Round-Up – Saturday 24th April 2021.

The 1st XI secured the Ruts only victory of the day as they beat Epsom Kings FC 4 – 1 at Meadowbank to regain their top of the table spot after briefly losing it earlier in the day.The Ruts got off to a decent start as Captain Paul ‘Whitto’ Whitthread headed home a Jude Kinsella cross in the 12th minute. Then on 25 mins a Paul Gough pass was delightfully floated home by Kevin Foster’s right foot (yes, right foot!)

In the second period Gough put the OR’s 3 nil up with a long range free kick on 52 mins. The Ruts tally was increased to 4 goals when Fabio Bagulho neatly headed home a Billy Liffen cross on 73 mins.Epsom spoiled the Ruts aims of a clean sheet in the 89th minute through a heavily deflected shot, although the all-important outcome of securing 3 points was successfully achieved. Whitto was the Ruts MOTM.

The depleted 2nd XI put in a decent shift away to League Leaders South Croydon and were actually level until the 75th minute after Sam Leatherby had scored the Ruts goal. However, the steam ran out of the OR’s engine after a sinbin reduced the lads to 10 men, which boosted the hosts opportunities which they pounced on and swiftly slotted 4 more goals. Adam Randall was the OR’s MOTM.

The 3rd XI felt they deserved something out of their narrow 4 – 3 defeat to Merton Social FC. However, it was not to be and Darren Bloomfield, Aaron Sandy’s and Steve Berry’s goals were merely consolations. Player Manager was the MOTM for his contribution to the Ruts cause.

The 4th XI were also quite a few regulars light as they went down 3 – 1 Away to Wanderers Res FC. Our Scorer and MOTM are tbc.

Best Wishes to the Ruts Youth teams tomorrow.
