The threadbare 1st XI put in a dominating 2nd half performance, as they deservedly secured a very credible draw and a vital point at Home to Battersea Ironsides FC.
Despite being 2 goals down at the break, they bounced superbly back with goals from Jimmy Graham and Shane Baker. This result was made all the more pleasing as the lads were working with an already depleted squad and were compounded by no-shows on the day.
The 2nd XI secured a 3 – 1 victory over NPL Res FC. Joe Baker (2) and young Matt O’Flaherty were the Ruts scorers.
The 3rd XI suffered a 7 – 0 reverse in a disappointing display. Manager Erol Yilmaz reported ‘we battered them for 6 minutes and then lost 7 – 0’.
Finally, fantastic news reaches us from the 4th XI camp as they earned their first win of the campaign by securing a very hard fought 4 – 2 victory against fellow basement boys Reigate Priory ‘B’ FC. Elated Manager Chris Bain enthused ‘our 1st win of the season and what a great feeling’ Charlie Andrews put us 1 up, before the oppo levelled with a back-heel. Josh Andrews then lobbed their keeper. The visitors levelled again. Josh Andrews then put us ahead from a dubious penalty. Dylan Downes save the best for last with a solo effort down the right wing and calmly slotted past the keeper. MOTM Dylan Downes.
Best wishes to the Ruts Youth teams tomorrow.
