The 1st XI secured a decent 4 – 1 win in a very competitive match at West Fulham FC earlier today.
The Ruts came out in strong fashion, ably boosted by the return of the influential Graham Rolfe, and on 6 minutes a Zak Graham corner was headed powerfully back across goal by Duncan Fraser and promptly slotted home by Jimmy Graham from close range, providing the Ruts with a terrific start to the match.
The OR’s were the stronger team for the first 30 minutes, although the hosts increased their presence for the remainder of the half and forced Seymour in to a close range parried save, before they levelled from the spot with the second to last kick off the half. (with the final kick being the restart from the centre circle).
No doubt buoyed by their leveller, West Fulham opened brightly in the early stages of the second period, before the Ruts stamped their mark on the game midway through the half with a well struck left footed shot from Rolfe to make it 2 – 1.
A defensive mix up enabled Jimmy Graham to make it 3 – 1 and then the game became totally wrapped up when good wing play by Billy Liffen lead to Jimmy crossing to Zak Graham who fired home with a diving header.
The 2nd XI drew 2 – 2 with Supercala FC at Poplar Road. The Ruts goals came from Jon Taylor and Gary Wilton.
The 3rd XI won 4 – 2 at New Life Res FC in the Cup. An impressive hatrick from Sam Maclean and a solitary strike from Darren Bloomfield doing the damage there.
The 4th XI’s tough start to the campaign continued, as they suffered a 3 – 0 home defeat to Thornton Heath FC.
Best wishes to the Vets and Junior teams tomorrow.
