Results Round Up – Saturday 23rd September 2017.

The 1st XI bounced back from last week in emphatic fashion, as they won 6 – 1 at Epsom Athletic earlier today. The Ruts went ahead after just 90 seconds after a throw-in from Daniel Gurney was flicked on by Zak Graham and Michael Beard headed it passed the home keeper for the early lead.

Epsom levelled in the 16th minute, although their reprieve was short lived as Beard promptly doubled his and the teams tally a minute later with a long range strike.  A sublime bit of footwork and a deft finish from Zak Graham in the 38th minute then saw the Ruts enter the interval 3 – 1 ahead.

In the second period Duncan Fraser headed goal-ward and saw his effort helped in by a defender, and then debutant Gary Wilton marked his arrival fresh off of the bench with a powerful headed effort to make it 5 – 1. Jimmy Graham converted a penalty after Zak was upended to make it 6 – 1 and then with virtually the last kick of the match Epsom reduced the arrears to 6 – 2.

The 2nd XI went down 5 – 1 at home to Woodmansterne Hyde with Ollie Hicks scoring the Ruts consolation.

The 3rd XI secured a terrific 6 – 2 win at Beckenham FC thanks to goals from Diogo Carvalho (2), Dan Martin, George Tidey, Richard Edmonds and Aaron Sandys. Apparently Sandys effort was a cheeky 40 yard lob and the team set their stall out early after storming in to a 3 – 0 lead inside 20 minutes.

The 4th XI, without their charismatic Manager Boo-Boo, had a bad day at the office as they sunk to a 10 – 0 defeat at Old Isleworthians. Onwards and upwards for next week Chaps.

Best wishes to the Vets and Junior Teams tomorrow, especially the U15 Girls who will be at Poplar Road.
