The 1st XI progressed in the League Cup after convincingly winning their Quarter Final against Chessington KCFC, with the score finally finishing at 5 – 1 after extra time.
Make no mistake though, this was a tightly fought affair in normal time, although the Ruts definitely had the Lion’s share of the games best chances and around the hour mark a cheeky & nicely placed lob from Paul Mears put the Ruts ahead. Shortly after the Ruts had the opportunity to go further ahead from the spot, although Rees Jackson had his penalty well saved by the home keeper.
With the Ruts seemingly going through in normal time, the hosts then managed to equalise right at the death, which lead to extra time.
Pleasingly the OR’s really upped the tempo in Extra Time and Zak Graham put the Ruts in the driving seat, firstly by firing home a penalty after Chris Beard had been up-ended. Graham then doubled his tally by slotting home at the far post following good work and a cross from Ollie Hicks.
Beard then scored a deserved debut goal himself , before Graham then put the icing on the cake by firing home for his hatrick, making the final score 5 – 1. There were multiple splendid performances and it will be interesting to see who was awarded the Ruts MOTM award.
The 2nd XI secured a 2 – 1 victory over Cheam VW in the League, thanks to goals from Phil Lines and Alex Blenkinsop.
The 3rd XI kick started their 2017 with a fantastic 7 – 0 victory in the Cup versus Battlebridge. The Ruts goals came courtesy of a Jon Mapp brace and solitary strikes from Paul Beaumont, Ciaran Moorhouse, Lawrence Hallett, Charlie Kennett and Colin Borrowdale.
The 4th XI suffered the Ruts only defeat of the day as they bowed out of the KDFL League Junior Cup against Lower Green from the division above them, as the hosts won 4 – 2. Freddie Paterson and George Cobb scored the Ruts goals.
Best wishes to the Vets and Junior teams tomorrow.
