The 1st XI overcame AC Malden 4-0 in the League Cup at Poplar Road today. However, it was a pity that the grass hadn’t been cut , as it made for an awkward surface not normally associated with our facilities! Anyway, the Ruts missed a penalty on 5 minutes and the interval arrived goalless.
The Ruts stepped it up a gear after the break, with Jerome Longville putting the OR’s ahead in the first minute of the period, after he closed down the keeper so well that the resulting ricochet notched the home lead. Three top strikes in a 14 minute spell started on the hour mark, firstly Nick Ragget hit a 20 yard rasper and this was followed by equally stunning strikes from Ryan Moore and Myles Wiltshire, the culmination of which brought about a convincing victory.
The 2nd XI went down 4 – 3 after extra time at NPL Reserves, with Ben Kennett, Steve Berry and Rhys Waul scoring for the Ruts.
The 3rd XI drew 3 – 3 at Oxted & District Reserves with Dan Martin notching a great hatrick.
Best wishes to the Vets & U9’s tomorrow. Let’s hope we can see the U9’s at Poplar Road if they are taller than Don Estelle and Windsor Davies’s Whispering Grass.
