Results Round Up – 5th September 2015

A decent opening day results wise with two x 3 – 2 away wins.

The 1st XI had a disastrous opening half hour going 2 goals behind despite having several close headed chances themselves. The hosts went ahead courtesy of a deflected effort and doubled their tally before a third of the match had gone. No doubt a half-time rocket was lit but even that didn’t really kick start the Ruts back in to the game until around the 70th minute when a long range free kick from Kieran O’Discroll evaded everyone and went straight in the net. Hanworth looked to have gone 3 – 1 ahead soon after, although the goal was controversially ruled offside. Finally the Ruts upped their game and Club Leg-end Lee ‘Trigger’ Poulter deftly slotted home the OR’s equaliser as the game approached it’s closing stages. Trig continued with some style thereafter as he deftly played in Callum Battershill for a well taken winner – proving that whilst he may have lost some pace and have occasional dodgy hammies – he hasn’t lost any quality. Ruts Keeper Ed Cornwell pulled of several decent saves during the match.

Well done team to the team for not giving up and displaying dogged commitment… but in fairness it was not a good team performance overall.

The 2nd XI beat Old Boys Clapham Reserves 3 – 2 in a game they apparently made hard of. A brace from Jake Burgess and a goal from Jon Taylor proved enough though and the Ruts also missed a penalty. Well done to both teams and best wishes to the Vets and U9’s tomorrow morning in their respective matches.
