Results Round-Up – 12th December 2015

County Cup woe and a double exit……

Well at least Dick Turpin wore a mask, although the Ruts were their own worst enemies as they created their own Highway Robbery which enabled the visitors to head back down the A3 with a fortuitous win.

What happened? Well, the Ruts dominated the first half and created an abundance of chances which were either spurned or well saved (sounding familiar?!) and the blustery first period ended goalless.

The 2nd half was a tad more even, although again the Ruts had more chances than a monopoly game. Then came the decisive moment which Keeper Ed Cornwell will want to forget, as he unfortunately mistimed a routine clearance and the ball rolled in to the goal gifting Knaphill Athletic the lead which they held on too. Did we deserve to lose? most definitely not. However, if you don’t score and the other team does, then tough luck.

The bottom line is that the unfortunate error should have proved completely academic, as everyone on the pitch knows the game should have been dead, buried and cooked well beforehand.

Erol’s 3rd XI put in a decent shift in the Lower Junior County Cup and were simply undone by a stronger side in Worplesdon Phoenix.

Best wishes to both of our succesful opponents in the next round.

Results Round-Up – 5th December 2015.

Well on the plus side the 1st XI put 4 decent goals past the League Leaders who had only conceded a total of 3 goals in their previous 7 games. Then on the downside they conceded 6 in a game that you had to virtually assault someone in a dark alleyway to get a yellow card. The Ruts were on top for the first 10 minutes and were denied by a good save before going a goal down. Kieran O’Driscoll scored a decent long range free kick to level, only for the Ruts to concede 3 further times before the interval to leave a mountain to climb in the second period. Again, on the plus side they climbed 3/4 of the mountain to reduce the arrears to 4 – 3 through goals from Jerome Longville and Myles Wiltshire. The Ruts then conceded a couple more unfortunately and Wiltshire added another very good finish to close the score at 6 – 4 to Westside, who would definitely know they were in a game today. The order of the day for 2016 is to start collecting league points as the Ruts play their final game of 2015 at Poplar Road in the County Cup next Saturday.

The 2nd XI drew 3 – 3 at home to Crescent Rovers ‘A’ FC (scorers TBC), whilst Erol’s 3rd XI secured the super fantastic Ruts result of the day with a splendid 4 – 2 away win at the previously undefeated League leaders Shaftesbury Town ‘A’ FC, despite going 2 – 0 down the team fought back superbly to secure their win courtesy of goals from Paul ‘Lucan’ Gough, Lawrence Hallett, Ollie Hicks & Jack McGoldrick.

Best wishes to the Vets and U9’s tomorrow.

Results Round-Up – 28th/29 Nov

The 1st XI were left to rue 2 dropped points in a game they largely dominated. They lead with a 1 – nil half time lead thanks to a well placed Jerome Longville header from a pin point Ryan Moore cross and had an abundance of chances throughout the afternoon to firmly wrap things up. Alas they were bitten on the football bum when the visitors were awarded a penalty which they converted 10 minutes from time. 3 consecutive league draws leaves the team seeking a win asap!

The 2nd XI went down 3 – 2 at Cheam VW, Phil Lines and Jon Mapp scored the Ruts goals.

The 3rd XI continued their good run of form with a 4 – 1 win over Alliance Ath FC  courtesy of goals from Ollie Hicks, Jack McGoldrick, Dan Martin & player manager Erol Yilmaz.

The best result of the day was the 25 year reunion Dinner/Presentation which saw around 60 players from the vaults of time to present day enjoy a great evening. Photos to follow soon!

Sunday saw 2 great results with the Vets squad boosted by a few past players from the night-before which inspired them to win 5 – 1 against Knollmead Vets at Poplar Road.scorers Billy Finnis x 2  Paul Hull x 2 &  Alan Whiter

The U9’s secured a great win too as they overcame Raynes Park Vale 2 – 0 in a friendly match to cap a generally successful weekend for the Ruts.

Results Round-Up – 14th November 2015

The Ruts enjoyed some decent results for the second week on the spin.

The 1st XI drew 1 – 1 against St Andrews FC. The visitors made a strong start and really stretched the Ruts at times. However, resolute defending and a number of decent stops from Evan Watson in the sticks kept them at bay. The Ruts weathered the storm and started coming back into it with Tim Ward proving a useful outlet. The first half continued in a similar pattern with the Ruts defending resolutely. Against the run of play the ball was played into the St Andrews box, Jerome Longville got the flick on and Duncan Fraser headed the Ruts ahead. The scoreline remained 1-0 at the turnaround. The second half was a more even contest with skipper Nick Raggett covering every blade of grass. Evan Watson proved he is very able at this level with a man of the match performance in the Ruts goal. The breakthrough for St Andrews came through an unfortunate rebound and a slip, although it was no more than they deserved. The game finished 1-1. A great battling performance. Young Evan was the Ruts MOTM = Good darts!

The 2nd XI glided to a comfortable 9 – 0 wins at Worcester Park ‘A’ FC with the hatful of scorers as follows  Steve Berry(3)  Ben Kennett (3)  Phil Lines (2) and Jon Taylor . Rhys Waul was the OR’s MOTM.

The 3rd XI won 5 – 1 at Shalford Reserves in the County Cup courtesy of goals from  Laurence Buchmann,  Paul Gough, Erol Yilmaz and a brace from Ollie Hicks. MOTM TBC.

Awaiting news on the Sunday Results.
