Old Rutlishians AFC (Old Ruts) is made up of ex-pupils of Rutlish School, amateur sportsman from the local community and the friends and relatives of existing players. It was reformed after a 58 year absence in the summer of 1990 having originally run from 1907 until 1932 when it folded after being replaced by Rugby as the popular winter sport at the Old Rutlishians
The 1st XI lost 3 – 1 at Home to Selhurst FC today. In reality, the Ruts were very slow out of the blocks and they were duly punished in the 8th and 30th minutes. That said, the OR’s performance was much improved for the remainder of the match thereon, which saw a second half display worthy of securing a point based on chances, although their only reward was Alex Blenkinsop’s goal after a Billy Liffen shot was saved and looped in the air.
The Visitors secured the 3 points, when they added a 3rd goal in injury time. Alex Blenkinsop was the OR’s MOTM.
The 2nd XI drew 0 – 0 with Surrey Casuals FC. Stand in Keeper Paul Tuckey was the OR’s MOTM.
The 3rd XI lost 4 – 1 at Shelton Athletic FC. Dan Wallis scored for the Ruts and Ross Trimmings was MOTM.
The 4th XI also lost 4 – 1, as they went down to Warlingham Reserves FC. Ayoub Fitri scored for the Ruts, whilst Veteran Simon Minihane was MOTM.
Our Walking Football Team were the only Ruts Winners today, as they notched an impressive 7 – 2 Win at Exiles FC. The scorers were Paul Cook (3) which secured him the deserved MOTM nod, plus a brace from Boo (Graham Larcombe) and strikes from Slats (Richard Slatford) & Graham Clayton.
No sugar coating will sweeten up our day, so a few glasses of Wine will suffice instead!
A depleted 1st XI had a dire afternoon losing 5 – 2 to Junction Elite FC. The only highlight of the day was 2 very decent finishes from Toby Lempriere.
It was 3 – 2 in Injury time before a final Gung ho approach backfired on us with 2 further goals being converted by our Hosts. This was a woeful display overall and we all know it. Credit and thanks to our Joint Manager Mappy for stepping up in the sticks.
The 2nd XI lost 3 – 1 to Sporting 50 Res FC. Jake Searles scored for the OR’s.
The 3rd XI were well in the game for an hour or so, against the League Leaders Oxted & District A FC. A late slump saw them go down 4 – 1. Reuban McArdle scored for the Ruts.
The 4th XI lost 6 – 0 at AFC North Leatherhead to round off a bitterly cold and disappointing day for all of our teams. We go again next week!
The 1st XI exited a Cup Competition after losing on penalties for the second time this Season! Although this one was probably slightly more frustrating as they had worked hard to secure a 2 – 0 lead over Kew Park Rangers FC, before being pegged back, conceding their 2nd goal late on 88 minutes.
This was a well-balanced competitive cup tie, in which the Ruts took the lead on 39 minutes after an exquisitely placed Lee Holland free kick was headed on to the crossbar by Alex Curme, with Will Mortimer seizing on the rebound first with a diving header from close range to put the Ruts in front.
In the second half the Ruts doubled their lead, when Sam Leatherby’s neatly placed through ball was latched onto by Billy Liffen, who sped forward before coolly slotting past the advancing KPR Keeper.
The tide began to turn when the Visitors notched a goal for themselves on 65 minutes, before they equalised on 88 minutes, taking the game straight to a penalty shootout which they ultimately won.

The 2nd XI bowed out of the Surrey Cup losing 4 – 3 against Warlingham FC, although Manager Jay Ramsey was pleased with his team’s performance. Sam Maclean notched a brace and the MOTM, with Kevin Foster also scoring for the Ruts.
The 3rd XI lost 2 – 0 to Purley Old Boys FC. Venue. Our thanks to Aaron Sandys for stepping up in Goal. Christian Cittie was the Ruts MOTM.
The 4th XI secured the Ruts only Win of the day as they comprehensively beat Real Holmesdale Res FC 6 – 1. The OR’s Goals came courtesy of Hamid Bensalim (2) Darren Bloomfield, Mark Todd, Abdel Hafidi and Simon Minihane. The returning Tom Hughes rolled back the years with an assured MOTM performance.
Our Walking Football Team lost 4 – 1 to AFC Wimbledon this morning. Paul Cook levelled with a powerful strike after the OR’s had initially fallen behind. A heavily deflected own goal put our hosts ahead, before 2 later goals sealed them their win. Our MOTM was Richard ‘Slats’ Slatford.

The 3rd XI are at Home to Purley Old Boys FC. Venue – Tudor Drive. Kick Off is at 1.30pm.
The 4th XI are Away to Real Holmesdale Res FC. Venue – John Ruskin Playing Fields, off Coombe Lane, Croydon CR0 5HL. Kick Off is at 2.00pm.

Our Sunday XI are Away to Club Int de Futbol Clapham FC. Venue – Wandsworth Common, Pitch 5. Kick Off is at 10.30am.

As early post-match news of the 3rd XI’s first Win of the Season reached club base, I briefly had optimistic thoughts that we might be on the cusp of achieving our first clean sweep for some time! However, one of our Teams drew, although 7 points from 9 was a decent outcome overall and one that we would have taken at the start of the day.
The 1st XI secured a 5 – 1 Victory against a talented Lambeth Spartans FC, although in fairness our Oppo were fully in the game throughout, and several outstanding saves from Keeper Evan Watson ensured the OR’s secured this decent result.
The Ruts line up had many enforced changes & positionings within it, owing to numerous availability issues, which showed somewhat in the first period.
Pleasingly the Ruts really upped the tempo in the second half though after reaching the interval level at 1 – 1.

1-0 – Ashley Daly fired home from close range, after a Fabio Bagulho flick on from a Lee Holland Corner on 2 mins.
1-1 – on 35mins.
2-1 – An own goal following a Paul Gough header from another Holland corner. 56 mins.
3-1 – A crisp Sam Leatherby strike from the edge of the area following a Bagulho assist on 64mins.
4-1 – Daly then doubled his tally on 68 mins, following tight decent control, which also helped secure him the MOTM award.
5-1 – Joint Player Manager George Tidey then slotted home well, when he found space to be 1 on 1 from a Gough assist on 85mins.
The 2nd XI had the tactical genius of club Legend and stand in Manager Lee ‘Trigger’ Poulter to thank for securing us a share of the spoils at NPL ‘B’ FC.
Trig reported ‘ We went 3-0 down in the worst 45 mins I’ve seen us play all year, we then fought back well to finish 3-3, we were actually pushing for the winner until 2 late sin bins halted our chances of that outcome, with 10 mins to go this left us with our backs to the wall, and it finished 3-3, a great second half though’. Ruts MOTM was Bradley Szreider.
The 3rd XI were truly delighted to secure their first Victory of the Season as they overcame Worcester Park Development FC by winning 6 – 2. Manager Christian Cittie was understandably pleased with the result, as well as the fact his teams goals came from all over the pitch. The Ruts Scorers were Aaron Sandys, Dan Wallis, Reuben McArdle, Paul Lawrence, Richard Edmonds & Ciaran Moorhouse. Sandys also secured the MOTM nod.
Massive well done to the players today. The 3rd XI’s Beers will be particularly tastier this evening!

The 1st XI were completely let down by an inexplicable no show, coupled with zero communication from their supposed Hosts. We’ll wait to see what the League make of this one!!
The 2nd lost 1 – 0 to Sutton High FC. Kyle Miller was the OR’s MOTM.
The 3rd XI suffered a 4 – 0 Home defeat against Old Thorntonians 4’s in the Surrey Cup. Venue. The score line somewhat flattered the visitors who did deserve to win, although the Ruts can rue some decent missed chances in the first half. Richard Woolland was Ruts MOTM.
The 4th XI lost 3 – 1 at Motspur Park ‘A’ FC. Hamid Bensalim scored the Ruts goal and Chris Blenkinsop was MOTM.
