The 1st XI secured a 2 – 0 win over Wandgas FC today in a hard fought and close encounter. A goalless first half saw a couple of chances at either end, with the Visitors coming closest to breaking the deadlock when a fizzing strike smashed against the woodwork just before the interval.
Early in the 2nd half Dan Gurney notched his first goal for the Club following a neat run and a slick finish, as he curled the ball over the keeper with a shot from the outside of his foot.
The half was generally evenly balanced, although the Ruts managed to tie the game up around 75 minutes when a clever cross from Billy Liffen was headed home at the far post by Chris Beard.
The 2nd XI also claimed 3 points in a 3 – 2 win at Epsom Athletic Res FC. The OR’s goals coming courtesy of a Paul Gough penalty and strikes from Diogo Carvalho & Kyle Moore.
The 3rd XI went out of the League Cup after losing 4 – 1 at Holland Sports. Sam Maclean notched the OR’s goal.
The 4th XI were 2 – 0 up at the break against Lower Green today, although the hosts came back to win 3 – 2 with plenty of help from over the top physical play. The Ruts goals came from Jason Hughes and Harry Reeder.
Best wishes to the Vets and Junior teams tomorrow.
